Cindy Wooden, "
Stable gay relationship is better than a 'temporary' one, says Cardinal Schönborn" (
Catholic Herald, September 11, 2015). You think there might have been something more significant for the cardinal to address on September 11th, or, heck, any day ...

The Cardinal makes a great point, just think about what he said in the analogous situation of Adrian Peterson and Jeffrey Dahmer.
Sure, Adrian Peterson used a switch to beat the living crap out of his four year old son but he did not rape and eat him like the young men Jeffrey Dammer did.
The crucial thing to appreciate in the Cardinal's observation is pertinacity in perversion is a sort of virtue and it can not be denied that he came out strongly against sodomy in the dining room The Church’s negative “judgment about homosexual acts is necessary”, he said, “but the Church should not look in the bedroom first, but in the dining room!
So, according to Schonborn, continuing in moral perversion is better than a one-time fall into such a mortal sin. How perverse must the mind of Schonborn be to say such an outrageous thing? It seems that nowadays many Cardinals and Bishops have not only left the faith, but also have apostasized from natural reason.
Clearly the Cardinal believes that doctrine exists, but that it isn't really binding on anyone. Mind you, if his interlocutor challenged any of the actions of the Church (both licit and illicit) since Vatican II, would he suddenly discover the need to apply doctrine?
Cardinal Schonborn, was the general editor of the Universal Catechism; is his Gelaro rainbow-colored?
Compare the catechism entries on sodomy with Tradition and one will see that our new tradition is severed from the past; that is, our new tradition is a revolutionary ideological praxis that continues to move away from Tradition and towards accommodation and peace with this pestilential practice.

Pope Pius V, Constitution Horrendum Illud Scelus, August 30, 1568 AD: “That horrible crime, on account of which corrupt and obscene cities were destroyed by fire through divine condemnation, causes us most bitter sorrow and shocks our mind, impelling us to repress such a crime with the greatest possible zeal. Quite opportunely the Fifth Lateran Council [1512-1517] issued this decree: „Let any member of the clergy caught in that vice against nature, given that the wrath of God falls over the sons of perfidy, be removed from the clerical order or forced to do penance in a monastery‟ (chap. 4, X, V, 31). So that the contagion of such a grave offense may not advance with greater audacity by taking advantage of impunity, which is the greatest incitement to sin, and so as to more severely punish the clerics who are guilty of this nefarious crime and who are not frightened by the death of their souls, we determine that they should be handed over to the severity of the secular authority, which enforces civil law. Therefore, wishing to pursue with greater rigor than we have exerted since the beginning of our pontificate, we establish that any priest or member of the clergy, either secular or regular, who commits such an execrable crime, by force of the present law be deprived of every clerical privilege, of every post, dignity, and ecclesiastical benefit; and having been degraded by an ecclesiastical judge, let him be immediately delivered to the secular authority to be put to death, as mandated by law as the fitting punishment for laymen who have sunk into this abyss.” (Bullarium Romanum, Rome: Typographia Reverendae Camerae Apostolicae, Mainardi, 1738, chap. 3, p. 33.)

Good question, Chris.
The entire conversation reveals a disturbing cluelessness. I am good friends with several gay couples, as well as several other couples where one has struggled with SSA. Despite the picture painted, the reverse is true: the more you are aware of the real state of play, the more you appreciate what a canard gay "marriage" actually is. That is the trouble with respecting our leaders: I don't only disagree theologically, but am profoundly suspect of their pastoral common-sense. They live in a make-believe Church bubble, retreating to faux-poverty while the rest of us pay the bills. Francis lectures the First World on spending, and yet I wait
to hear sermons addressed to his own flock on tithing or retirement. Or anything concrete in terms of daily life demands. It is, unfortunately, a crock. Most of our leaders would have been better off going into ... I was about to say social work, but honestly they'd be best suited for college campus counseling. There it's a safe and subsidized world. As for Cardinal Schonborn's "dining room," how many gay dining rooms does he frequent, anyway? From my limited experience, gay households are noticeably... gay. The more these guys talk, the more they strike me as European, well, dopes. Even the 'Church as hospital' meme...where do you find that int he New Testament. I'd argue close to nowhere.
