Additional Upcoming Special Tridentine Masses
This fall is turning out to be a busy season for special Masses in the Extraordinary Form. In addition to Msgr. Calkins’ 9:45 AM Mass on Sunday, October 25 at the OCLMA/Academy of the Sacred Heart and the Friday, October 30 Mass at 7:00 PM at Old St. Mary’s in Detroit, you may wish to mark your calendars for one or more of the following:
Flint Anniversary Mass
The Flint Tridentine Community will celebrate its 26th Anniversary next Sunday, October 18 with a Solemn High Mass at Flint’s St. Matthew Church at 3:00 PM. Canon Joel Estrada of the Institute of Christ the King will be the celebrant, Fr. Louis Madey will be Deacon, and Fr. Jeffrey Robideau will be Subdeacon. The choir and altar servers from Windsor’s St. Benedict Tridentine Community will assist, as has been the tradition for several years. All are invited to a dinner following the Mass in the parish hall, for which a free-will offering may be made.
The Three Masses of All Souls Day
Continuing a local tradition of devotion to the Poor Souls in Purgatory, on Monday, November 2, there will be a special evening of Holy Masses for All Souls Day at St. Alphonsus Church in Windsor.
The Church provides three different sets of Mass Propers for All Souls Day, to encourage priests to celebrate multiple Masses for the dead on that day.
At 6:00 PM, two Low Masses will be celebrated on the Side Altars of the church (the Second and Third Masses of All Souls), a rare opportunity to see Side Altars in use. At 7:00 PM, a Solemn High Mass with Deacon and Subdeacon will be offered at the High Altar (the First Mass of All Souls), followed by Absolution at the Catafalque. The St. Benedict Tridentine Community Choir will sing the Gregorian Requiem Mass, plus Lacrimósa from Mozart’s Requiem and Maurice Duruflé’s Lux Ætérna.
Confirmations in the Extraordinary Form at the OCLMA on November 8
On Sunday, November 8 at 9:45 AM, Archdiocese of Detroit Auxiliary Bishop Donald Hanchon will celebrate the Oakland County Latin Mass Association’s Tridentine Mass at the Academy of the Sacred Heart Chapel in Bloomfield Hills. Immediately after Mass, His Excellency will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation according to the Extraordinary Form.
A reception will follow the Mass.
Bishop Earl Boyea to Celebrate Mass at St. Mary Star of the Sea, Jackson, Michigan
On December 6, the Second Sunday of Advent, at 12:15 PM Diocese of Lansing Bishop Earl Boyea will celebrate a Pontifical Missa Cantata at St. Mary Star of the Sea Church in Jackson, Michigan.
St. Mary Star of the Sea is arguably Michigan’s most well-maintained historic church, inside and out. It has been the home of the Jackson Tridentine community for almost two years. Members of the St. Benedict Tridentine Community have been invited to serve at this Mass. Rides are available from Bloomfield Hills and Windsor for those who wish to attend; please e-mail the address at the bottom of this page to make arrangements.
