How the Methodists accommodate the Devil

As they say, "the Devil is in the details": Lauren Markoe, "Methodists aprove same-sex marriage benefits" (The Layman Online, May 6, 2014):
(RNS) Same-sex partners can’t marry in a United Methodist Church. But if one of the spouses works at one of the denomination’s 13 general agencies, the couple can get benefits if state laws allow it.

If you can't change the official stance, change the "policies" out of pastoral concern and admission of unavoidable social shifts. So you can later change the policy everyone knows is not enforced.
