John L. Allen, Jr. has an article in the National Catholic Reporter (October 24, 2006) entitled "Expert says new translation may curb appetite for older Mass." The expert in question, Fr. Bruce Harbert, executive director of the International Commission on English in the Liturgy, said that he suspects traditionalists will be better satisfied by the new translation, because it includes more literal translations such as "and with your spirit," rather than "and with you." This is indeed an improvement. True, the band aid may be much too small for the hemorrhage. Nice band aid, though.
