Four Outdoor Altars Corpus Christi Procession at OCLMA/Orchard Lake Seminary on June 14

At the kind suggestion of Orchard Lake Schools Chancellor Fr. Miroslaw Krol, weather permitting, the Oakland County Latin Mass Association will hold a Eucharistic procession to four outdoor altars on the Orchard Lake Seminary campus following High Mass at the Shrine Chapel at the special time of 2:00 PM, next Sunday, June 14, the External Solemnity of Corpus Christi. Fr. Krol will lead the procession, while Fr. Louis Madey will celebrate the preceding Mass. This Mass will take the place of the morning OCLMA Mass that day, as Orchard Lake needs the chapel that morning for a campus Mass. In case of rain, the procession will be held inside the Shrine Chapel.

While not often seen nowadays, the rubrics for the traditional Corpus Christi procession recommend that it stop for Adoration at four altars along the way. The expansive Orchard Lake campus has many lovely places for that to take place, including a large Lourdes Grotto, pictured below. As its name suggestions, the campus sits on the shore of Orchard Lake. On the property are Ss. Cyril & Methodius Seminary; St. Mary’s Prep, a Catholic high school; and the Polish Mission.

Holy See Grants Plenary Indulgence for Prayers During Pandemic

Holy Mother Church has granted a new and simple way to gain a Plenary Indulgence during this time of pandemic “to those faithful who offer a visit to the Blessed Sacrament, or Eucharistic adoration, or reading the Holy Scriptures for at least half an hour, or the recitation of the Holy Rosary, or the pious exercise of the Way of the Cross, or the recitation of the Chaplet of Divine Mercy, to implore from Almighty God the end of the epidemic, relief for those who are afflicted and eternal salvation for those whom the Lord has called to Himself.” The usual conditions of reception of Holy Communion once per indulgence sought and Confession are deferred until it is reasonably possible to do so in one’s locale. The other conditions of prayer for the Holy Father’s intentions and freedom from attachment to sin remain.

Fr. Borkowski Architectural Videos

Fr. Mark Borkowski is metro Detroit’s most accomplished historic church restorer. St. Josaphat, Sweetest Heart of Mary, St. Joseph, and now Our Lady of the Scapular have all benefitted from significant restorations and re-beautifications through his keen eye and careful cost controls. Recently Our Lady of the Scapular has begun to produce a series of short videos featuring Fr. Borkowski explaining architectural features of the church and the theology behind them. The first videos focus on stained glass.

The 1971 Indult – A Recollection

In 1970 the cause of preserving the Traditional Latin Mass seemed hopeless. The movement towards universalizing the Novus Ordo seemed unstoppable. But that didn’t dissuade an enterprising Englishman, Alfred Marnau, from attracting the cooperation of an unlikely troupe of artists and intellectuals in seeking from Pope St. Paul VI what affectionately became known as “The Agatha Christie Indult”. Mr. Marnau recorded his recollections of the process in a fascinating article you can read here: https://lms.org.uk/1971-english-indult-recollection

Liturgical Conferences Cancelled

Three prominent liturgical conferences that had been scheduled for this summer have been cancelled due to the pandemic: The Sacred Liturgy Conference in Spokane, the Sacred Music Colloquium in Tampa, and the Latin Liturgy Association Convention in St. Louis have all been cancelled. All plan to reschedule in 2021.
