You've seen those cheap, made-in-China plastic "rosaries"? They're being marketed as New Age rosaries. Under titles like: "Powerful Wishing Rosaries," "Worship Rosaries with Anthrax worship music," "Satanic Rosaries" with upside down crucifixes. Some of them contain occult symbols. Never noticed. But here's a video from gloria.tv entitled "
Dodgy Rosaries" that was sent out by a concerned priest.
A New Age woman of some sort offers instructions on how to say these "rosaries":
First make the sign of the Pentagram on you body, and then a circle, like this:
"In the name of the father, and the mother, my holy spirit consciousness, my holy angel, and myself. Be it unto me according to my word, amen."
Creepy.
This is a hoax:

ReplyDeleteThanks for the comment. While it may be true that not all plastic rosaries resembling those in the video are produced or marketed by New Age- and Occult-promoting industries, I don't see any counterfactuals that would warrant calling everything in the report a "hoax." Were the featured websites advertising New Age rosaries a hoax? Was the woman illustrating how to make the sign of the pentagram when praying such a rosary a hoax?
ReplyDeleteOn the one hand, we need to avoid spiritual paranoia. On the other hand, we need to avoid spiritual naiveté. Thanks again, PP
PP,
ReplyDeleteIn reviewing the original post, and the video, I have to admit that dismissing it as a hoax leaves me uneasy. There is something about this so-called hoax that still rings true. In particular, the traditional admonition about not using a Rosary made from plastic.
This might be a good opportunity to remind people to buy a good quality wooden rosary which has been blessed under the traditional form.
Perhaps "hoax" is not the right word. It misleadingly suggests that everything in the report is part of a seamless "argument" based on a flawed premise or misinformation. But the report consists of a number of discrete claims and suggestions and illustrations. So I think you may be right -- as you certainly are in your concluding recommendation.

ReplyDeleteGood advice that applies to every single aspect of Catholicism. One ought have a Crucifix and Holy Water Font in his house and, of course, use a Rosary, and all of those Holy Sacramentals must be Blessed by a Traditional Order Priest using the real form of Blessing and not the,at best, questionable, forms "reformed" by those who beliefs were, at best, suspect.
The Modernist Revolution struck the Church deeply and profoundly in its Universal Shepherds and we have been scattered and all of this was anticipated and petitioned for defense against such, apparently, ineluctable iniquity in this most wonderful of prayers; ...This wicked serpent, like an unclean torrent, pours into men of depraved minds and corrupt hearts the poison of his malice, the spirit of lying, impiety, blasphemy, and the deadly breath of impurity and every form of vice and iniquity. These crafty enemies of mankind have filled to overflowing with gall and wormwood the Church, which is the Bride of the Lamb without spot: they have laid profane hands upon her most sacred treasures....
It is not surprising that such a masculine prayer was treated as though it was leprous by those who succor feminism and sodomy.
Who prays the real Saint Michael Prayer is a Catholic Traditionalist.
Love tha prayer from pope Leo XIII!
