Larry & Sarah debate new Missal translation

Michael Venditti, "If you're a Roman Catholic, you'd better watch this. [HQ]" (Video):
Larry and Sarah debate the pros and cons of the new translation of the Mass of the Roman Rite. An original master-of-divinity.com production
Well, it's a spoof, and very funny in parts. Given the premises that define the limits of the dialog, it gets most everything right.

  1. Some fun lines.

You know, if any of the voices bellyaching about the bad english had said a peep when the GATHER hymnbook or the NAM or the current Mass were imposed on the church, they might have credibility. But since they led the pack in sacrificing aesthetics in order to propagandize, their protests are lame. It's like, OK< you had your chance to redecorate the Church, and you got suckered in by shag carpet and Bobby Vinton crap. And now you want to play the critic? Not. I'll trust the guy who likes Mozart.

Does anyone know of a Novus Ordo daily missal in Latin? There seems to be some plot to keep the original out of the hands of the people in the pews.

Did they lead the pack? It's my impression that the ones now "bellyaching" also objected to the Gather songbook, etc. And besides, even if they once approved of regrettable of misbegotten liturgical changes, don't they have the right to change their minds and change their ways?

The premises of the video keep it from addressing the larger question of whether the new missal translation isn't little more than applying a band aid to a gangrenous limb.
