Must the "Catholic vote" be stupid?

With the November elections only weeks away, we've just received the link to this article by Fr. Richard Perozich, "O Stupid Catholics, Who Has Bewitched You?" (Courageous Priest, October 8, 2010), by way of Creative Minority Report (We laugh because we believe ...), which says of Fr. Perozich's article that it "does a great job of collecting the words of priests who are willing to speak out no matter the cost. This one's a real barn burner."

  1. The following is taken from http://www.jknirp.com/thavis3.htm. After you read this you must think how you would act to save the life of another.

"A Catholic would be guilty of formal cooperation in evil, and so unworthy to present himself for holy Communion, if he were to deliberately vote for a candidate precisely because of the candidate's permissive stand on abortion and/or euthanasia, Cardinal Ratzinger wrote.
When a Catholic does not share a candidate's stand in favor of abortion and/or euthanasia, but votes for that candidate for other reasons, it is considered remote material cooperation, which can be permitted in the presence of proportionate reasons, he said.
In other words, if a Catholic thinks a candidate's positions on other issues outweigh the difference on abortion, a vote for that candidate would not be considered sinful."

Every life is sacred. If your starting point is other issues outweigh abortion you have missed the point. If you're looking for virtue in a politician you are on one impossible scavenger hunt. When one politician is public about pro-life and another is public about pro-choice and the pro-life candidate acts against life in his policies the heavier weight is still on the pro-life side. It may be a small amount of weight, but it's all we have. I write the politicians, I would advise you to write your candidate, they listen to the many and we need to be the many. In this race for governor of Michigan we have a pro-abortion candidate and a pro-embrionic stem cell research opponent. One of these will surly win and the only vote seems to be between two evils, the lesser being the death of embrios "that would have died anyway." Utterly disgusting!

Of course he makes good points. It is pretty much a no brainer that most Democrat candidates are disqualified for a Catholic vote (save for perhaps an extremely rare few pro-life ones).

But the problem is does that mean Republican is automatically qualified to receive your vote?

Where you have one party promoting abortion, euthanasia, SSM, etc. and the other promoting unjust wars, torture - excuse me, "enhanced interrogation techniques", etc., exactly for whom should one cast his vote?

The demagogues (in power since January 2007) have not ended your unjust wars. The baby murderers have stopped waterboarding - PTL - but replaced it with assassinations by drones.

I am pretty sure you will not get into Heaven if you vote dem.
