Detroit advisory on SSPX

Members of the Archdiocese of Detroit have been recently reminded by His Excellency, Archbishop Allen Vigneron (via an Archdiocesan bulletin), that two churches of the SSPX in the environs of Detroit -- along with eight other churches (four affiliated with the Polish National Catholic Church, and four more of various independent para-Catholic affiliations) -- are not in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church. The Advisory also states:

Out of concern for the faithful who want to participate in the Holy Eucharist celebrated according to the form of the Mass prior to the Second Vatican Council (sometimes called the "Tridentine Rite"), Pope Benedict XVI in hiis Apostolic Letter, "Summorum Pontificum," extended permission for the celebration of the Eucharist according this Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite. Catholics who wish to worship according this form should attend it at parishes in the Archdiocese of Detroit in full communion with our Holy Father the Pope. A list of thse parishes can be found on the Archdiocese of Detroit website: www.aodonline.org.

Finally, the faithful are enjoined "to continue to pray that God will bring the Society of St. Pius X and all other Christian communities into full communion with the Roman Catholic Church so that we may all be one."

As reported in an earlier post, Archbishop Vigneron administered the Sacrament of Confirmation according to the Extraordinary Form at St. Josaphat Church following the 9:30 AM Mass last Sunday.
