The Gingerich clan, my mother's side of the family, is a lively bunch -- everything from medical physicians and entrepreneurs in Canada to adventurers of the sort I idolized as a youngster: pilots, cowboys and motor cycle riders in Idaho who broke horses, traveled to Africa, S. America, up the Amazon to Manaus, drover their motorcycles to Panama and Alaska and back, and enjoyed trying to blow things up as kids and should have been dead several times over at age 20. My cousins' dad, furthermore, wasn't the kind of dad who dampened their enthusiasm, but would say, why don't you try and see if it wouldn't work better like this? Insane. And of course we loved it.
