CDF Prefect wants to break all contact with the SSPX?

From Rorate Caeli (July 7, 2013):
German weekly FOCUS reports this Sunday that Archbishop Müller, Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, wants to break contact with the Society of Saint Pius X (SSPX). A statement to that effect is about to be published, according to a source of FOCUS within the CDF.

The reason for ending contacts with the SSPX is the recent declaration of the three SSPX Bishops, in which they not only criticize the texts of Vatican II, but also the Magisterium, "a magisterium resolved to reconcile Catholic doctrine with liberal ideas". Furthermore, they state that the church is "imbued with this liberal spirit which manifests itself especially in religious liberty, ecumenism, collegiality and the New Mass."

According to FOCUS's source, the reaction of Archbishop Müller was: "That's it!" ("Jetzt reicht's!", i.e., "enough!")

Rorate note: what exactly happened one year ago, anyway? What caused the unbelievable turn between April and June 2012? We will try to explain it in a specific post on the matter [See previous post below].

  3. The SSPX. Who do them bastids think they are believing and teaching everything that was believed and taught from Pentecost to the opening of V2?

Who are they to decide to pass on everything that they received rather than to pass on what they received?

Man, if it wasn't for the German Theologians, we'd prolly still be mired in the muck of Aquinas.

  4. Who cares, he never liked them anyway. We who desire that the SSPX come back into the fold must wait a little longer. The time wasn't right under Benedict.

    Ms. Lapeyre,

Why don't you blame him? Just curious. You know he's cozy with Lutherans, celebrating prayer services with them. You know he's cozy with Leonardo Boff, who was censured by the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith in 1985, and who finally broke with the Catholic Church in 1992.

Yet you think it's a good think that he may want nothing more to do with the SSPX, whose only sin is adhering steadfastly to Catholic tradition and are condemned as schismatic for their refusal to compromise and join the Vatican II revolution?

If Pope St. Pius X were to appear in Rome today, the curia would not know what to do with him, because he would have the same reaction to the new Mass, current ideas about ecumenism, religious liberty, etc., that the SSPX has. Curial officials might be inclined to label Pope Pius X as "schismatic," but then the Church has already infallibly declared him a SAINT!

So I'm just curious about your thinking behind your comment. That's all.

Oh, and Ms. Lapeyre, I'm also curious what you think of Pope Benedict XVI's indefatigable patience and solicitousness in meeting repeatedly wish Bishop Fellay of the SSPX and apparently seeking the regularization of their fraternity against the massive opposition of sentiments such as yours. Do you think His Holiness was misguided? Duplicitous?

    Again, just curious.

... and his lifting of the excommunications of the SSPX bishops ordained by Archbishop Lefebvre -- what do you think about that gesture, by former Pope Benedict?
