I have long searched for a better description of what higher education has become in the mainstream of academia today, but found none. R. R. Reno, in a 2007 review revisiting Allan Bloom's Closing of the American Mind: How Higher Education Has Failed Democracy and Impoverished the Souls of Today's Students,writes:
