Unconscionable to force citizens to buy contraceptives against their will....[Hat tip to Fr. Z.]
WASHINGTON—The Catholic bishops of the United States called “literally unconscionable” a decision by the Obama Administration to continue to demand that sterilization, abortifacients and contraception be included in virtually all health plans. Today’s announcement means that this mandate and its very narrow exemption will not change at all; instead there will only be a delay in enforcement against some employers.
“In effect, the president is saying we have a year to figure out how to violate our consciences,” said Cardinal-designate Timothy M. Dolan, archbishop of New York and president of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.

US Bishops call Pres. Obama’s attack “literally unconscionable”
USCCB:
And he's only delaying the persecution for a year because it's election year.
ReplyDeleteWhile the decision is truly unconscionable, it will serve an important purpose. This is a hard and clear line drawn in the sand. Many Bishops, more concerned with their place at the table, their political power and friends, will have to, in a very public way, make a choice. Follow and stand up for the truth - or follow the money, power and prestige.
ReplyDeleteWe'll soon know, finally and unambiguously, who's with us and who's agin' us.
The Lord truly works in mysterious ways!
Don't know what "literal unconscionability" might be, but I certainly can't argue with the Ab here. Nice to see an American prelate of some stature actually express an opinion movers and shakers might disagree with. As usual, too little too late from the USCCB.
ReplyDeleteObama is never more of a hypocrite than when he feigns religiosity or respect for religions other than Islam. He hardly bothers to hide his indifference, which would have been deadly for a politician a generation or two ago, but today is a net plus, since a growing number of Americans feel exactly the same way, whatever nominal affiliation they may retain.
